Life of mine planning

Muck3D is used by operators and consultants alike to develop plans showing the development of a TSF over its operating life.  Use the deposition and dam raise tools to quickly develop annual snapshots of a tailings facility you can very quickly develop an understanding of what is required to successfully operate a TSF to meet key safety and operational criteria.  Understand the behaviour of the pond and how it can impact other aspects of operations, estimate annual construction requirements, identify periods when storage is limited and consider mitigation measures or transition to the next tailings storage facility.

For sites with multiple TSF’s, running scenarios with a number of simultaneously operating storage areas is easy.  Transitions to new tailings facilities can be planned under a range of operating scenarios, giving useful information to help plan and budget accordingly.

Short range planning

Simulate short-range plans in Muck3D Tailings and Muck3D Tailings+ to understand the impact of decisions on pond behaviour, remaining storage for a given dam lift, and safety and operational criteria.

Keep track of water depth at the water reclaim locations to ensure that a barge or pump doesn’t get sanded in, or is left high and dry.  Run different scenarios or model different contingency situations to determine how the current plan holds up against potential threats (stormwater capacity in a high rainfall event, storage capacity if a pump or line goes down).

Some of the deposition tools let you get an understanding of the short term effort required to operate, in terms of pipeline movements, and dyke raise scheduling.

Water management

The tight integration between tailings deposition and pond management in Muck3D Tailings and Muck3D Tailings+ allows for the pond to be driven by water balance models, providing a realistic simulation of the behaviour of the facility over time.  Running short and long-range tailings plans will help identify periods when water management becomes critical and different strategies can be quickly evaluated to see the impact on the final facility configuration.
